Viewer Discretion: It appears the remains of the deceased chick were removed from the nest bowl and placed on the side of the nest. We are viewing the everyday life of Bald Eagles. This is Nature, wild and unscripted. Sometimes our emotions override our curiosity. It’s OK to trust them when you need to and to make healthy decisions for yourself. Earlier update: We are sad to let everyone know that one of Jackie and Shadow’s chicks did not make it through the severe winter storm that brought over 2 feet of snow to the area. The chick’s passing happened some time after all three were observed together getting fed at 6 pm on 3/13. We do not know what happened or why it passed. The shorter snow berm now makes that chick partially visible in the nest bowl, on the right side. We do not know which chick it was because they were very close in size. We understand completely how hard this is to hear. Please allow yourself to grieve and feel whatever you feel. Please honor the chick for its courage in getting as far as it did and doing whatever it came to do. Camera Update 🎤💡The storm impacted our equipment as well. The microphone and IR light on the nest camera went out. For now, we plan to feed the sound from Cam2 to the nest camera. We also plan to use the IR light on Cam2 as a substitute light source, if there is enough solar power. Please remember that the IR light on both cameras is completely invisible to both eagles and humans. Only the cameras can see it to create an image. 🐥Chick1 hatched 3/3 @23:26, Chick2 hatched 3/4 @4:29, Chick3 hatched 3/8 before 6:13. One of the chicks deceased some time after 6PM 3/13.
