POOR DRAINAGE SYSTEM INTRODUCTION There are a lot of environmental problems associated in the environment but here we will concentrate more on environmental problems on UCC campus.some of these environmental problems are improper disposal of waste, poor drainage system, noise pollution, flood just to mention a few. We would like to enlighten you more on poor drainage system, it’s causes, effects and Remedies. Drainage is the passage way or channels that allow free flow of waste water in the environment without Interfering or distracting the activities of the environment Poor drainage system is the inability of the drainage to transport waste water and sewage neatly to their disposal point. CAUSES We would like to start with the Causes of Poor drainage system 1. Improper disposal of waste 2. Sand blocking the gutters 3. Humus find their way into the gutters 4. Shedding of the leaves into the gutters 5. Plant that over-grow around and in drainage systems 6. Foreign materials such as food, hair soap, fact etc build up and block the drain pipes 7. Building in ways or in path intended for the construction of drainage systems Effect of Poor Drainage 1. Poor drainage if not manage well create smell 2. Gutters get chocked and water bricks it’s bounds causing flooding 3. Erosion 4. Disease Remedy’s of poor drainage system 1. Appropriate drainage should be created to contain waste water depending of the volume of waste water created by the people on the environment and natural factors such as rain 2. Vegetation along and in drainage system should be cut/ pruned regularly to allow the free flow of waste water in the drainage system 3. Education 4. Communal labour 5. There should be sanctions for those who building around gutters 6. Sanction for improper disposal of waste.
