Legiana Collective - Lu Rusciu de lu Mare

Lu Rusciu de lu Mare is another Tarantella! Originally this was a very slow ballad from Apullia, Italy. Later it transformed into a very fast traditional. We have fused the two different paces together. This live session was shot at Hof van Cartesius in Utrecht. This last video in the series premiered 28 february 2021 at ADM Re-Rooting. The lyrics that we sing here, are slightly different from the 'traditional' version. There's a nice story behind it, that we heard from the great musician Gigi Cardigliano, who we once had the pleasure of jamming with, without knowing who he was! Here's his story, translated to English and under in Italian: "Maybe you don't know, I was the one who transformed the beautiful traditional song into the version that everyone sings and you interpreted it truly with all your heart. It was 1979, I was a student, I lived in Florence and every night there was a big Jam in Piazza della Signoria. I was in a hurry to write a text for an English girl with whom I had a "love story" I had this melody that was going around in my head, so I took the text of the traditional song and removed the final verse that I didn't like. I added a new final verse: 1° "e vola vola paloma mia ca ieu lu core meu 'nde laggiu ddare" 2° ( pija ddrhu core meu e 'nde l'hai purtare ). Over the years it has been sung so much that it has become popular." Gigi Cardigliano "Forse voi non lo sapete, sono stato io che ho trasformato la bellissima canzone tradizionale nella versione che tutti cantano e voi l'avete interpretata veramente di cuore. Correva l'anno 1979, ero uno studente, vivevo a Firenze e tutte le notti era una grande Jam in Piazza della Signoria. Avevo fretta di scrivere un testo per una ragazza inglese con avevo una "storia d'amore" avevo questa melodia che mi girava in testa, allora presi il testo della canzone tradizionale e tolsi la strofa finale che non mi piaceva. Aggiunsi una nuova strofa finale: 1°"e vola vola paloma mia ca ieu lu core meu 'nde laggiu ddare" 2°( pija ddrhu core meu e 'nde l'hai purtare ). Negli anni è stata cantata tanto da diventare di dominio popolare."
