John von Neumann - The NORC and Problems in High Speed Computing (1954)

This is a recording of the speech given by John von Neumann on December 2, 1954 on the occasion of the announcement of the completion of the Naval Ordnance Research Calculator (NORC). This machine was designed and constructed for the U.S. Navy's Bureau of Ordnance by members of the Watson Laboratory under the engineering direction of Byron L. Havens and the overall direction of Wallace J. Eckert, the laboratory’s chief. The content of this talk is printed in "Collected Works of John von Neumann, Volume X (1963)" and reprinted as "The NORC and Problems in High-Speed Computing (1981)" The source of this audio recording is http://www.eeng.dcu.ie/~alife/von-neu....
