Local communities possess expert knowledge of their environment which can be represented on a map. Google Earth can be combined with participatory methods, empowering local communities to build their own maps. This session will cover the basics of how to create all the feature types - points, lines and polygons - for mapping community knowledge using the Direct-to-Digital method developed by The Firelight Group. You’ll also learn how to add further detail to mapped places using text and images. In addition to practicing your Google Earth skills, we’ll also discuss best practices and methodology for engaging with local communities using Google Earth.
