Today it's found on the corner of Hyde Park and the Tyburn Tree was a triangular gallows which was the scene of hundreds and thousands of brutal executions. But it wasn't just a straightforward beheading that occured here, Tyburn became an area known for the horrific hanging, drawing and quartering. This execution method was particularly bloody, and was reserved for very serious criminals and those accused of treason. Henry VIII, who's fifth wife had an affair behind his back would order executions to take place at Tyburn, and the Tyburn Tree was famous for it's shape. It was triangular and this was purely so more people could be hanged and killed that if it was just a standard gallows. The executions were almost public entertainment during this period, and thousands would descend on the area to witness the deaths.
