When Angela Lansbury and some of the cast members left the Piccadilly Theatre production of Gypsy in December of 1973 to transfer the run to Broadway, Dolores Gray stepped into the role of Rose, to mostly positive reviews. Though ticket sale diminished during her run and the show ended up closing on March 2nd of 1974, she would later go on to play the role in two other productions: one in 1976 at the Paper Mill Playhouse, and another touring production in 1982. Other cast members in this production included Barrie Ingham, Jenny Lyons, Julia Brams, Kate Ellison, Andrew Norman, Debbie Bowen, Larry Cross, Valerie Walsh, Kelly Wilson, Judy Cannon and others.
