Noripi Sakai apologises at press conference

(17 Sep 2009) "NORIPI" SAKAI MAKES TEARFUL APOLOGY Japanese actress and singer Noriko Sakai, better known as "Noripi", gave a tearful press conference in Tokyo on Thursday (17 SEPT 2009) where she apologised for taking drugs. "I am truly, truly sorry" she said. The star was released on bail earlier Thursday following her arrest on August 8 for possession and use of stimulant drugs. Sakai bowed deeply in front of reporters at the press conference and spoke of her regrets: ''As a responsible adult and person, I was too weak that I got involved in doing drugs. I have created a great deal of problems to many people. I have disappointed the people that have supported me, and because of my irresponsible act, I also made people very anxious. My action is unforgivable." Her husband, Yuichi Takaso, a 41-year-old self-styled professional surfer, was freed on bail the previous day following his indictment on similar charges. The couple are prohibited from meeting unless lawyers are present. Journalists had been waiting outside Tokyo Wangan police station for four days expecting Sakai's release on bail. A big story in Japan, it lead most evening news bulletins. Sakai, who is accused of possessing the illegal drugs at her Tokyo home and using them at a hotel in Kagoshima Prefecture earlier this summer, is scheduled to have her first hearing on October 26 at the Tokyo District Court. Takaso's first court hearing will be on October 21.
