💦 How to avoid overwatering potted plants🪴TIPS from an expert!

He joins Katie in this week’s episode: When, why & how to bring plants inside for winter. 🪴❄️ 💧One thing to be careful about when you bring plants inside for winter is…watering. Specifically, overwatering.❓ 💦 Environmental factors affect how much water plants absorb. 🪴 So, consider your plant’s new indoor environment before deciding how much & how often to water. 😵 Plus, plants need more water when they’re growing. 💦 But in the winter, some plants go dormant and growth stops almost entirely. 🪴 Even plants that don’t go dormant grow more slowly in winter. 😵 This slowdown in growth also means plants need less fertilizer in the winter. 💦 And yes—there is such a thing as too much fertilizer! 🪴 In hotter weather, plants need more water. So, you’ll water much more in summer than you need to in winter. 💦 Also, consider the size of a plant's container relative to the size of the plant. 🪴 A container should only slightly larger than the plant itself. 😵 Why is this important? Properly sized containers make it much easier to monitor watering. 🪴 For example, if a container is too large for your plant, soil close to the surface might be dry—but the soil toward the bottom may be wet or even waterlogged (!). 😵 But be careful! It’s not a good idea to repot in the winter. 💦 Plants might not have the energy to root properly or survive transplant shock! Check out the full video on our channel!
