Who is Éric Zemmour?

Freddie Sayers meets Éric Zemmour. Éric Zemmour is a name you might not be familiar with, but on the other side of the channel he is a main topic of conversation. Over the last six months, the Right-wing intellectual has been steadily climbing the polls to become a favourite to challenge Emmanuel Macron in next year’s presidential election. So what’s fuelling this run?  As one of France’s better-known media personalities, Zemmour has launched a series of polemics against France’s Muslim population, the values of which he argues are incompatible with France. He has called for a ban on the flow of all immigrants, legal and illegal, and a focus on assimilating the existing population. Though he is yet to officially declare a run for the presidency, the Right-wing polemicist visited London earlier this week to meet the capital’s sizeable French community. There, Freddie Sayers spoke to some of his supporters before speaking to Mr Zemmour himself about his politics and rhetoric.
