Amidst lush green fields and grazing cattle, life in Belokhra seemed peaceful but beneath that calm was a story of struggle, migration, and survival. Most families lived hand-to-mouth, earning just enough through farming and daily labor. We met young students who held college degrees but never actually went to class, a reflection of Bihar’s broken education system. Then, we met a man who had migrated to Tamil Nadu to work as a laborer. His frustration was clear: no jobs, no hope, and no faith left in the political system. One of the most heartbreaking stories came from a family surviving on just ₹1100 per month, a father with a disability, a mentally unwell mother, and a child who couldn’t attend school because they couldn’t afford a uniform or a slate. They lived on government freebies, waiting for real change. Villagers spoke about the unfulfilled promise of development, no bridge over the Tilawah River, lack of basic healthcare, and a generation forced to migrate. Some women still cross the river on foot, balancing heavy loads on their heads, just to reach the other side.
