1978 SPEEDTWINS - Speedtwins 2LP SPEEDTWINS – It's More Fun To Compete + 15 bonus tracks The Speedtwins derive their name from a classic British motorcycle, the Triumph Speed Twin. Their existence they owe to a chance meeting in a café in Arnhem, where in 1977 the British folk musician Jody Daniel decides to join forces with Dutch singer Vera Groen and bass player Jacky Wolters. In doing so, they get help from guitarist Leen Barbier and drummer Nico Groen, both from Splinterfunk. Despite their diverse musical background, it is clear from the outset what the musical direction is going to be: punk! The Netherlands are still an almost blank page in this area, but that changes quickly through the 'feminist' S&M-act Speedtwins bring to the stage. DJ Alfred Lagarde gets excited and throws himself on as a producer of the LP It's More Fun To Compete (1978), with classic songs such as Speedtwins, Motorbike Song and So Why Pretend. The basis for an illustrious career is in the making. The band plays as a support-act for the Sex Pistols and Herman Brood. When Leen Barbier starts his own band Turbo and drummer Nico Groen develops into a much sought-after studio musician, a true carousel if substitutes follows. With drummer Theo Outhuijse and guitarist Peter Presser the single Blackmail is recorded. Unfortunately Jody's love for Triumph Speed Twin will eventually be fatal in 1984. He dies in a tragic motorcycle accident. The music of the Speedtwins still lives on. While collectors pay large amounts for the LP, Pseudonym releases the double lp It's More Fun To Compete. It consists of the original LP and 15 bonus tracks, including the single Blackmail / Bomb In The Jukebox and 13 never before released recordings from 1979. Such as Lies Lies Lies, the beautiful Silver and a cover version of Nancy Sinatra's These Boots (Are Made For Walking). This first ever reissue of It's More Fun To Compete is dynamic remastered from the original tapes, pressed on 180 gram vinyl, and packaged in a beautiful gatefold sleeve with rare photos.
