Wisdom Wednesday: In Week Three of our Misinterpreted Scriptures series, we’re examining one of Jesus’ strongest warnings — Matthew 23:27–28, where He confronts the religious leaders of His day. “You are like whitewashed tombs…” This passage is often used to argue that religion itself is the problem — but that’s not what Jesus was condemning. In this teaching, we slow down and read His words carefully, discovering that Jesus was not rejecting obedience, structure, or devotion — He was confronting hypocrisy, performative faith, and hearts far from God. In this study, we’ll explore: • What Jesus meant by “whitewashed tombs” • The difference between biblical religion and hollow religious performance • Why outward holiness without inward transformation is dangerous • How this passage calls believers to integrity, not abandonment of faith practices. My heart in this teaching is to help us reclaim a biblical view of religion — one that flows from genuine relationship with God and results in lives marked by humility, obedience, and truth. 📖 Scripture Focus: Matthew 23:27–28 📅 Series: Misinterpreted Scriptures — Week 3 ⬇️ Reflection Question: Have you ever heard this passage used to dismiss religion altogether?
