Dr. Jordan Rogers began addressing the issue of prayer at the beginning of 2020. He preached this sermon from James 4:1-11 entitled, "How to Draw Near to God." Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. What a wonderful promise from our Heavenly Father! Sadly, there are many ways in which we are tempted to sin against God and turn away from Him. Our ungodliness is made very apparent by our sinful cravings, jealousy, lack of prayer, and even our ineffective prayer. The good news is that by the grace of God, we can return to the Lord. The Apostle James issued five commands which must be obeyed if one is to return to an intimate nearness to God. 1) You’ve got to return to your rightful position as subordinate to God and His will. 2) You have to resist the devil’s temptations to lead you astray to sin. 3) You must draw near to God through every means possible (Scripture, fellowship, prayer, etc.). 4) You must purify your actions and heart rather than being a hypocrite. 5) You must embrace a deep sorrow over the sins you once lived in.
