Welcome back to Vast Sky Media! Nestled in Fontana, California, the Auto Club Speedway stands on ground rich with industrial and motorsports history. Before engines ever roared here, this land was home to the massive Kaiser Steel Mill—established in the 1940s to supply steel during World War II. When the mill closed in the 1980s, it left behind a massive vacant site… until a vision for speed took over. In 1995, construction began on what would become one of the premier racing facilities in the United States. By June 1997, the California Speedway opened to the public with a NASCAR Busch Series race, followed shortly by its first Cup Series event. The site was officially renamed Auto Club Speedway in 2008. In February 2023, the track hosted its final NASCAR race before plans to reconfigure it into a half-mile short track, marking the end of its two-mile era. Beyond racing, the speedway featured in films such as "Charlie's Angels" and "Herbie: Fully Loaded," and inspired the Los Angeles International Speedway in Pixar's "Cars."
