Honda CRF450RL Off Road Test Ride and First Impressions

One bike I've had my eye on for the last few years has been the Honda CRF450L (now Honda CRF450RL). As an avid Japanese dual sport fan boy, this bike has always seemed like the perfect combination of reliability and performance and if I were ever to seriously consider upgrading from my Suzuki DRZ400s, the Honda CRF450L has long been at the top of the list of potential replacements. I was lucky enough to get out on an extended CRF 450L off road test ride at the Get On ADV Fest in California, and I have to say I came away very impressed with how this bike handles in sandy, technical terrain. I also got to do an on road test ride on the 450RL and I have to say it impressed me there, as well. One of the most common complaints about the Honda CRF450RL off road is that it doesn't do well at slow speeds and has a tendency to flame out and die on you. I tested this thoroughly on my off road test ride, attempting to lug the bike and kill it in 2nd and 3rd gear, but I could not get it to die. This is in large part thanks to the Honda CRF450L Vortex ECU installed on this bike....but with that upgrade, it's a compelling choice for fast or slow trail riding, which was a relief. I was stoked to get some time to do an initial Honda CRF450L review at this event. This is a dual sport bike I'd definitely consider upgrading to in the future.
