Jan 2021 I had a 10cm by 3cm ganglion cyst in my shoulder that was impinging my suprascapular nerve. Jan and Feb 2021 the impingement caused significant arm strength reduction and slight nagging shoulder discomfort. The cyst was drained (March 2021). Arm strength returned to 80-90% but shoulder discomfort continued. To prepare for the draining I had a MRI (Feb 2021) of the shoulder and it was discovered that I also had a 7mm labrum tear. Both surgeon and shoulder doctors agreed that to prevent future re-filling of the cyst I have a SLAP procedure. They felt that the tear (flap) was acting like a one-way valve allowing fluid to fill the cyst but not allowing it to drain. I delayed having the SLAP procedure until April 2022 so I could continue my training as I was competing in an important cross country ski race in March 2022. I had 1 more ultrasound (Dec 2021) and the cyst had not re-filled. The strength reduction and the nagging (but manageable) shoulder discomfort has remained constant despite the continued physiotherapy from Jan 2021 up until having the surgery. I'll update this description box 6 months post surgery. Good luck with your shoulder issue, I hope this information was helpful for you.
