Ambient track created using the arpeggiators in Ableton Live to generate multiple tracks from a single root note. The drifting soundscape is visualised by showing a keyboard for each track and the notes it plays from the root note displayed at the bottom. There is also a visualiser of the music drifting off into the distance which takes over for the rest of the video. Track Breakdown: The ROOT NOTE was a sequence I composed to give the kind of chord progressions I wanted but this could have been generated by a randomised sequencer for an infinite track. The Kick drum used Ableton's DS Kick fed by notes from Step Arp. The chance option allowed me to create a rhythm that occasionally had a beat missing to avoid monotony. Originally it was going to be pitched but I decided against that. Zyklop a free synth from Dawesome was used to create a modulating pad. This was also fed through Audio Thing's Orb which created a random vowel filter. Ableton's Chord created a basic scale aware triad from the root note i.e. C Major scale - so a C major from root C but D minor from root D. The chance function allowed for the random addition of a 6th. Cherry audio's free S.E.M. synth provided a swinging bass by feeding the chord to the arpeggiator. There is also a Random in there to occasionally throw in a different note. Ableton's Collision, fed from the chord through arpeggiator, is a physical modelling synth that created a sort of muted xylophone or marimba. Ableton's Operator which is an FM synth created the bell like tones to create a bell tree type arpeggio with a one off arp for each root note trigger.
