A couple of years ago I had the idea that it'd be fun to make a Mario Kart 8 music video. Thought it'd be cool to include all the courses and characters in the video. I sat on the idea for a year or two and then Nintendo wound up announcing the Booster Pass. At that point I figured "Ok, I'll wait until they're done releasing all the new courses and I'll include those in the video too." The Booster Pass finally completed and I was caught up in other projects and such at the time, so I kept the idea on the back burner. After another year, I finally got motivated to make this and started recording footage in December of 2024. I spent about 16 hours recording footage (plus a couple extra hours for re-records later). I spent the following three+ months editing it on and off and finished it in late March. Fun facts: I did wind up using all 96 courses (including all 4 seasonal variants of Animal Crossing) and having each character feature prominently in at least a few shots each! I was hoping to get all the different karts to show up too, but that was a trickier task to add on top of the previous two and there were some karts that didn't get included. :( I recorded all the footage at 1080p 60fps directly from my Switch using an Elgato HD60 Pro and edited it at that resolution. However, Youtube butchered the video quality at 1080p with a meh bit rate and the video was a blocky mess at times. So I wound up upscaling the video to 1440p to get a better bit rate out of Youtube and that did wonders for getting a much cleaner looking streaming copy here. I will say though, my preferred way for anyone to view the video would be the 1080p copy that I have linked below. It's much crisper, even if it is a bit of a hefty file size.
