Day 1️⃣ highlights from hashtag#TPM26 where the meetings, sessions, and expo hall kicked off at the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center. Shout-out to #LeadCoverage our event coverage partner for 2026 and to Century Supply Chain Solutions, my home base for the conference! The day started with a keynote address from Janet Yellen who served as the 78th United States Secretary of the Treasury from 2021 to 2025 and Chair of the Federal Reserve from 2014 to 2018. From there the expo floor opened up, carriers and service providers started hosting meetings with clients and as usual, AI was in the AIr. You'll hear multiple AI companies in the interviews today providing agents to handle back office work for logistics companies and of the biggest themes I heard today was around the QUALITY and QUANTITY of data that is needed to feed AI. Otherwise AI is going to just help you make "much worse decisions, much faster." So this means using AI to clean data for AI, yes, that is humorous, and sensors and IoT devices are needed more than ever to let AI engines know what is where at all times. Jett calls this a “fragmentation tax.” It goes hand in hand with Technology Debt. The obstacle to adoption is probably not the technology. It is change management, starting with getting buy in from leadership. You can think about the value of AI in terms of labor hours saved. But you can also think about it in terms of improving service levels.
