Patient Personal Story: Gymnastics and Spondylolisthesis Trailer

At 13 years old and a competitive USAG level 8 gymnast, Isabelle was on track to achieve her dream of competing as an elite college gymnast. Severe back pain brought her to a spine specialist, who discovered Isabelle was born with congenital spondylolisthesis, a condition in which one of the bones of the spine (vertebrae) slips out of place onto the vertebra below it and may compress on a nerve, causing pain. Working with her spine specialist, Isabelle and her family made the decision that she would have spine fusion surgery to relieve her pain, stabilize the spine and increase her ability to function.
