Cooper Simon is a Sophomore Electrical Engineering major in the Randall Research Scholars Program (RRSP). Their research project presentation, "FMCW LIDAR System for Bathymetry," was completed under the advisement of Sara Neshani from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Project Description: A low-power FMCW LiDAR system operating at 1550 nm for precise river bathymetry mapping will be designed and implemented. Bathymetry is the measurement of water depth. The system will provide fine-resolution water depth measurements over shallow and clear rivers, addressing the challenges of traditional methods with enhanced accuracy and lower power consumption. The system is being assembled in a laboratory environment, where its performance will be characterized using a delay line. This first-phase evaluation will validate the system's range resolution, linearity, and signal fidelity, laying the groundwork for future deployment in river bathymetry mapping applications.
