The 2023 NFL Draft was loaded with tight-end talent, but the New England Patriots decided to hold off on drafting one of the top prospects and went the UDFA route with Johnny Lumpkin from Louisiana. Lumpkin is hulking Y in-line tight end at 6-5 265lbs. Although he doesn't have an impressive stat line, his tape shows he is very raw... but the growth potential is scary. Lumpkin is not only tall, but he is incredibly long and has huge mitts. Moreover, his tape shows he can run some decent routes and he is basically unaffected by linebackers and defensive backs trying to obstruct him. Most importantly, he has decent run and pass-blocking skills that could be a big help for the Patriots' offensive line. Keep in mind, New England does not have a solid blocking tight end on their roster. As a result, I think Lumpkin has a shot to make the roster if he can show he is capable of blocking at the next level and can be a viable threat in the red zone. I also think he is a great candidate to possibly be converted to tackle if need be. #newenglandpatriots #Johnnylumpkin #nfl #nfldraft #football #nfldraft2023 #UDFA #filmstudy #billbellichick #patriots #newenglandpatriotsnews #nfldraftgrades #nflrookies #minicamp #tightend "Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research.
