Skeletonization: full-body pose (2D)

Our work explores the use of image understanding techniques combined with inexpensive video cameras to provide full-body gesture data as input to an immersive environment system. The goal is to help enhance the experience of immersion by developing software tools that add human body awareness to the virtual environment being displayed by a stereoscopic 3D screen. We seek a simple and effective means of interaction independent of controllers, tracking markers, or other user- borne devices. Only the use of polarized glasses is required for the perception of the 3D output. Our aim is also to develop low-cost, accessible solutions that are forward-looking to provide interaction designers with means to prototype ideas easily and in anticipation of future releases of similar technology in the mainstream of HCI applications.
