Date and Time: Tuesday, February 4th, 8:00 PM EST Location – Virtual Meeting Event Description: This journal club will explore the rising public health concern of semisynthetic cannabinoids (SSCs), focusing on their toxicity and the increasing reports of associated adverse events. SSCs, such as hexahydrocannabinol (HHC), are often marketed as legal alternatives to traditional cannabis, but they can have potent and unpredictable effects. The discussion will center on thew case reports by Puri (2024) and Reiter (2024) which describes patients who developed potentially life-threatening symptoms after using synthetic or semi-synthetic cannabinoids. Key discussion points will include the challenges of regulating these substances, the lack of understanding regarding their long-term effects, and the need for greater awareness among clinicians and policymakers.
