Greetings! Today I show you how to make some simple foundry tools. Seriously, only 3 pieces of cheap steel went into these. I make a very simple, effective crucible tongs. Well, they aren't exactly crucible tongs, more like a lifter/pourer with no moving parts. Also it only works for one size of crucible. But hey, it's cheap, and that's something. Then, i make a dross scooper so i don't have to keep using a spoon that i hold in a pair of channel locks. Yeah, i used to do that. No, it didn't go well. Lastly, i make a plunger thingy to degass the metal. It plunges a packet of degassing stuff or a degassing tablet or something like that to the bottom of the crucible, and the holes allow the air to bubble up through the metal, removing the gasses. The crucible tongs even work with the "Mini Metal Foundry" design, as i demonstrate near the end of the video. The tongs were not my original design, i saw them on some youtube channel where this guy melts copper and dumps molten copper on various things. NOTE: Do NOT do that. Pouring molten aluminum or molten copper on random things can cause serious injuries. Like, it's just a bad idea. Plus it's a waste of perfectly good copper. That stuff could have been a door stop or something useful, who knows. But every time you melt copper you lose a little to oxidation, so don't waste it. OK, end of tangential rant... This is simple stuff, and all 3 tools were made from 3 pieces of steel (and a little spare sheet). Not bad. Oh yeah, and you need a welder. also you need to know how to weld. That's kind of important here. That's a slight catch, but you don't need to know how to weld very well. I certainly suck at welding and I made these, so you should be fine.
