Nicolas Huchet uses a mio-electric prosthesis every day since he suffered an accident at work in April 2002. He built a low cost open source 3D prosthesis in a fab lab to make it through his disability. Nicolas Huchet uses a mio-electric prosthesis every day since he suffered an accident at work in April 2002. He now has trouble acquiring a poli-digital prosthesis. In October 2012, he discovered the FabLab in his town and asked there if it was possible to make a robot-hand. They listened to his request and took it seriously. When the makers told him about 3D printing and open source (Arduino, thingiverse, inMoov, etc.), Nicolas realized all the possibilities citizens have in their own hands to change the world and that’s when he decided to act. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
