Step inside history as we explore the 123-year-old Chattahoochee County Jail. Built in 1902 and used until 1975, this historic jail has seen decades of law, order, and untold stories. A huge thank you to Chief Deputy Williamson, Deputy Todd Beaver, and the Chattahoochee County Sheriff's Office for giving me this exclusive look inside. The jail was built in 1902 by the Pauly Jail & Manufacturing Company for $5,000. It replaced the 1855 two-story log jail that had been in use for nearly 50 years. The structure features Romanesque architectural influences, including arched windows and a central bay. The iron-barred cells, which still remain on the second floor, have unique corner fireplaces. The jail was used until 1975 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. The Chattahoochee County Historic Preservation Society has been working to restore and protect this incredible piece of Georgia’s past.
