How to Apply Numbing Cream at Home | ICLS Dermatology & Plastic Surgery

Maxilene is type of lidocaine cream used to safely numb parts of the face or body to lessen the sting associated with injectable or laser treatments, and improve a patient's overall experience. Your ICLS nurse will apply the cream prior to your first treatment. For subsequent appointments, you have the option of applying it at home prior to a scheduled treatment. Maxilene is available for purchase in The Skin Store for $48.00 in clinic and online at The Skin Store (https://theskinstore.ca).   Prior to applying Maxilene, use mild soap and water to clean the area. Avoid cleansers containing alcohol as they strip the skin of natural oils that Maxilene needs to penetrate the skin.   Apply a small amount of cream and gently massage into the skin. Apply a thick enough layer so that no skin is visible beneath the cream. Maxilene can be safely applied to upper and lower eye lids, if treatment will include those areas, avoiding direct contact with eyes. If can also be applied along the hairline.    The cream should remain on for one hour, although you may experience the numbing effects in less time.
