🤰 When Nicole, Montserrat’s mother, was pregnant, her baby was diagnosed with a Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia. Nicole immediately began searching for answers in hospitals outside her home country, the Dominican Republic. 🏥 In the final months of her pregnancy, she looked for a hospital with strong survival rates in fetal and neonatal surgery, a highly specialised neonatal intensive care team, and the capacity to perform ECMO. 🌎 After exploring options in the United States, Chile, Colombia and Argentina, among others, SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital responded in time to receive both mother and baby. Following a series of tests upon arrival and a closely monitored birth, Monserrat underwent surgery just a few hours after being born — successfully. 👶 Today, she is a healthy baby who is growing and developing normally, and the family has been able to reunite in their home country.
