This is my Sony Vaio VPCF226FM. Last year it died. Sony said I needed a new 800 dollar mother board. Really? So I bought a Mac Mini and this sat for 16 months till I could find a way to fix it with out costing a fortune. After all I had just paid about 1200 bucks at Best Buy in 2013. Anyway I did some research and saw that the power adapter plug on the F series and others was going bad. I originally opened it up and put a multi meter on the end of the jack by its micro PCB. I was getting 19.5 volts. But this jack has 7 or 8 wires in it. If one is bad your done. It wouldn't even start with the battery . To make a long story short if you have a Sony F series don't chuck it. I bought the part on eBay food like 3 bucks. If you get it from Amazon it's 30 bucks. Mine runs fine ! Now I've replaced the wireless N module with an Intel 1750 wireless AC. Really sped up my wifi! Replaced the factory 750 GB HHD with an Intel 600 GB SSD. It came stock with 4 GB of DDR3 ram and the specs say it's max is 8. Maybe it's some kind of firmware update or windows 8.1 but now I'm running 16 GB DDR3 1600 MHz ! After a year or so of putting all my crap in it could take 4 to 5 minutes to completely boot. Now it boots under 30 sec! This laptop performs better than any of my so called souped up desktops!
