After more than the 40 seasons, the show is still going strong. But it's early days, often dubbed "Old School Survivor" transcend the world of reality tv, so much so that I believe survivor's first seven seasons (Borneo, The Australian Outback, Africa, Marquesas, Thailand, the Amazon, and Pearl Islands) are some the best tv ever made and are the peak of the reality genre. This is part 1 in a series of videos that will cover the history of old school survivor as well as the reasons as to why I personally like the classic seasons more than new school seasons. While this isn't an old school vs new school series, it will certainly make comparisons between the two. Part 1 only covers one season: Borneo. That's because there is just so much to discuss with this first season: from Richard Hatch and Rudy's friendship, to the formation of the alliance, Stacey Stillman's lawsuit, Sue Hawk's rats and snakes speech, Jenna and Gretchen's infamous boots, Sean's dumb alphabet strategy, Survivor's battle with Who Wants to be a Millionaire, the influence of the Blair Witch Project and much more. This is a detailed history of survivor's first season, from the show's origin story all the way up to record breaking Survivor finale where the sole survivor and winner was revealed on location for the one and only time (edit: Survivor 41 revealed its winner on location during its finale as well).
