However, these founders of the Antonetti Clinic witnessed the take over of their hospital by the communist regime of Fidel Castro and they were forced to flea the country or face certain death. In spite of this, the legacy of the Antonetti Clinic remains strong. Although the name has been changed several times, today it is an institute for cardiac medicine and surgery and is the only hospital in Cuba that performs open heart surgery.
