BIRTH AND CHILDHOOD The late James Mutangili was born in 1930 at Kithuni Village Kaiti Location in present day Makueni County. He was the second born child of the Late Nzyuko Muiwa and the Late Ndasya Nzyuko. He was brother to the late Kiendi Nzyuko, Grace Kavini, Loise Kavuo, the Ltae Nyamasyo Nzyuko and Rose Mbithe. MARRIAGE AND CHILDREN Babu got married to his beloved wife Mary Kamene in 1953.The couple was blessed with ten children: six sons and four daughters; Anthony, the late Dr. Mathew Mutangili, Silvester, Alexander, Mark, Alphonce, Regina, the late Rose, Catherine and Hydah. Mzee was beloved father in-law to Francis Waita, the late Antony Nzivo Lau, the Late Helen, Jacinta, Charity, Gerald, June, Sarah and Zipporah. Babu was loving grandfather to Tom, Jacinta, Amos, Jimmy, Muindi, Derrick, Jimmy Nzivo, Ken, Lilian, Jimmy Mwanzia, Marvin, Kelvin M., Baraka, Theo, Judy, Doreen, Jimmy Ngei, Albert, Natasha, June, Zeddy, Charles, Felix,Telvin, Kelvin, Shammim and Alexa. He was also blessed to be a great grandfather to Talia, Linet, Caren, Lisha, Liam, Jayden,Victoria, Nelson, Luke, Nigel,Abel, Levy and Israel. EDUCATION The Late Mzee James Mutangili never went through any formal education. However, through self- inititive and peer coaching, he was able to write and read the bible. CAREER As a young man, Babu worked as a farm helper for a colonial master in Ng'alu between 1955-960 after the family relocated from Kilungu to Kamuthanga in 1948. Between 1960 to 1969 he was self employed, doing milk vending and sand harvesting locally. He later worked as a trainee mechanic in Nairobi between 1970 and 1971.Thereafter, he worked as a mechanic at Car & General Nairobi upto 1974. He was later employed by ECTA Kenya Limited (now Subaru Kenya) up to the year 2000 when he retired. After his retirement, Babu embarked on farming at his home in Kenol until his heath started deteriorating. SOCIAL LIFE Babu was a firm believer in social welfare and valued meaningful relationships. He was in many welfare groups where he served in various capacities, including clan leadership. CHRISTIAN LIFE Babu was a firm believer and member of the New East Africa Church (NEAC), where he served as a church elder up to the time of his demise. ILLNESS AND DEMISE Dad was taken ill in 2017 and was taken to various hospitals such as Nairobi West hospital, Kenyatta National Hospital, Bristol Park and in Machakos Level 5 Hospital where he was diagnosed with various illnesses such as Dimention Diabetes, Cardiosis and finally Kidney failure. On 3rd March 2023, his health deteriorated while he was undergoing treatment in Machakos. It was while there when he went to be with the Lord at around 11:00 am. He was 93 years of age at the time of his passing. He leaves behind his wife, five sons, three daughters, twenty eight grandchildren and thirteen great grand children.
