So you wanna start reading more classics? Develop some literary taste? Want accessible, approachable book recommendations? Well you're in the right place finally here's the list I promised of short classics (most are under 100 pages) that are (relatively) easy to read and a good place to get started when getting into reading more literary classics, and hopefully make its all less daunting I've made sure to curate a list which is very wide ranging in terms of time, place and literary style, while still being accessible to new readers. So whether you want to read about 19th Century Russia, 1970s Hollywood, Colonial Nigeria or 16th Century France boy oh boy do I have the books for you. Why Read the Classics? Calvino Essay (link): https://www.penguin.co.uk/discover/ar... Also it must be said, if you're tight on funds LOTS of these recommendations are available as pdf's online!! it's my moral obligation to let you know. Libraries are (of course) the perfect resource for you getting started if you don't wanna commit to authors you're new to. Also get a library card any way!! It helps keep their numbers and funding up!! Let me know if you read any of these, if you have an other book recommendations or any tips and tricks for others for getting into reading classic literature. – EA x 00:00 Intro 01:38 Why Might Classics be Off-Putting? 05:43 Why Read the Classics? – Calvino (linked) 06:43 Invisible Cities – Calvino (1972) 08:43 White Nights – Dostoevsky (1848) 11:14 The Yellow Wall-Paper – Charlotte Perkins Gilman (1892) 13:28 The Old Man and the Sea – Ernest Hemmingway (1952) 15:35 The Princesse of Clèves – Madame de La Fayette (1678) 19:27 Little Penguin Classics (Series) 24:07 Play it as it Lays – Joan Didion (1970) 28:25 Chéri, Gigi and The Cat – Colette (1920s) 29:42 Candide, or Optimism – Voltaire (1759) 33:14 Castle Rackrent – Maria Edgeworth (1800) 34:48 Up at the Villa – Somerset Maugham (1941) 36:07 Things Fall Apart – Chinua Acheb (1958) 39:25 Outro 🍒 Watch my Films 🍒 / @sarcasticfishfilms2015 🍑 Redbubble Shop 🍑 https://www.redbubble.com/people/sarc... 🍋 Related Playlists 🍋 The Weekly Vlog Master Playlist: • WEEKLY VLOGS!
