Dr. Naomi Burke presents results from Perinatal Ireland’s GENESIS Study. The GENESIS study looked into new ways to predict if a pregnant woman would require an emergency Caesarean Section. The GENESIS study investigated whether Fetal Head Circumference (FHC) could be an accurate indicator of who would require an emergency caesarean section. Previously there was no test which could predict this in pregnant women, and the study concluded that FHC combined with five other measurements including advancing maternal age and higher body mass index were the best combined predictors of Caesarean Delivery. Dr. Burke is a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the Rotunda Hospital. Rotunda Hospital Research Day took place on the 2nd of June to allow the consortium of clinical trials to showcase the depth and breadth of exciting research being conducted in the Rotunda Hospital today - research that improves the lives of parents and children in Dublin, in Ireland and around the world.
