Hello 😊 Here’s my transcription of the Kalapana song “The Hurt”. This song comes from their 1975 self titled album. The bass player on this track was Bill Perry. You can find the transcription on Muzento under the Advanced Songs category. Whoa, I did not see what was coming when I started working on this one. I had no idea it was going to be a sixteenth note rhythm extravaganza. On a pop tune...who would have thought eh? 😊 This is a very solid rhythmic bass line. I wonder if it would be considered too busy by today's standards of pop tune. Hard to say. I guess we would have to talk to a producer. Whatever the case, it sure is a fun song to play. I really like what he came up with. Harmonically, there is nothing difficult at all in this one. But rhythmically...hang on to your hat. There are lots of little twists and turns in this one that will trip you up if you're not giving it your full attention. At least that is how it was for me. There are a bunch of different ways this could be played. I like to use a combination of open strings with my position playing. For the most part, I try to move as little as possible. There are always exceptions though. If you like this song and want to learn it, I would suggest and encourage you to find a couple different ways to play it and go with the one that feels and sounds best for you 😊 This would make for a good rhythm study focusing on sixteenth notes. It sounds good even without the other instruments.
