Hey, everyone, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2022 Subaru Crosstrek, we're gonna be showing you how to install the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver. Before we do that though, let's take a minute, check it out, and make sure it's gonna work for you. So when it comes to the Subaru Crosstrek, a lot of people use 'em to do a little bit of everything. Whether you're gonna be pulling a trailer around or using accessories or a little bit of both, you're gonna want a hitch that'll be up to the task, and this one is going to do just that. There are several other hitches available as well. And for the most part, they're gonna be pretty similar. I feel like this one is a little more suited for towing just because a few of the things it has, some large openings there for the safety chains and it also has a pre-attached bracket to it for allowing you to mount up trailer wiring. But that's not to say you can't use a bike rack or something with it because you absolutely can. In terms of the appearance, it's probably my least favorite. If I'm being honest, etrailer and CURT make one where the hitch is still visible but it just blends in a little bit more, if that's something you're looking for. And if you want something that's going to have a really factory-type appearance, there is an EcoHitch available that, for the most part, is completely hidden. This hitch is going to be compatible with vehicles that are hybrids as well as non hybrids, like ours today. So regardless of your submodel, the hitch should work out pretty well for you. With that in mind, it is going to be a Class III hitch, which means it has the two inch by two inch receiver tube opening, which is a good thing. That's a super common size, and so a lot of stuff will work with it. It is going to use the standard 5/8 pin and clip. Keep in mind though, one doesn't come included with the hitch. If you need one, not a huge deal, you can grab it here at each trailer. And a lot of times too, if you end up buying a new accessory, they'll come with one. So just something to look out for there. We kind of talked about those openings already, but to give you an example, regardless of pretty much whatever size hook you might have on your trailer, they should fit. As far as the hitch's weight capacities go, it's gonna have some pretty high numbers, definitely higher than some of the other hitches available. The maximum gross tongue weight rating is gonna be 675 pounds, and that's the amount of weight pushing down on the hitch. So you'll be able to use pretty much whatever size bike rack or cargo carrier that you'd want, for example. And as far as the maximum gross trailer weight rating is concerned, that's gonna be 4,500 pounds. That's the amount of weight pulling on the hitch, so the weight of your trailer plus anything you might have entered on it. Now, I do always like to recommend, it's never a bad idea just to grab your Subaru's owner's manual. That way, you can check in there and make sure that your Crosstrek can handle that much weight safely. We'll grab a couple measurements now, and these will help us figure out what type of accessories will work best. We go from the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver tube opening. That's gonna be about 15 inches. So if you're plan on pulling a trailer, you probably use a ball mount that has a straight shank or maybe even one with a slight rise, inch or two should work well for most scenarios, and it's high enough off the ground where your accessory has a straight shank, you'll be just fine, as far as clearance. If it has a rise in it, even better. Not gonna hurt anything. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the rear bumper, that's gonna be about three inches, which is really good. So you shouldn't run into any issues here, but if need be you can use that to help figure out exactly if any of those folding style accessories can be sort upright without hitting the back of your Subaru. Aside from that, a hitch that'll definitely get the job done and help to open up your opportunities on what you're gonna be able to do with your Crosstrek. As far as the installation goes, it's really not too bad. You do have to let the exhaust come down a little bit to give you some extra room to work. It's not a huge deal. Pretty easy to do that. Put the hardware in the frame, and the hitch just bolts up into place. So
