Thrifting Community Garage Sales for Vintage & Estate Treasures!

A community-wide garage sale event springs up right across from my junior high school, and I take a drive down memory lane. The housing tract across the street is now 50 years old—will we uncover cool old items and vintage collectibles from childhood? Rain keeps shoppers away, giving us the advantage to explore many sales filled with baby clothes, new goods, and things we do not need (including a SPAM sandwich stand). Then a large tent with serious sellers attracts our attention. We examine fishing reels and consider an Instant Pot, but a gleaming brass fire extinguisher across the street pulls us away. There are plenty of close calls, including a fun birdcage, but we have not made a purchase yet. Just as I complain about not seeing older items, a garage and estate sale comes into view. I have a hunch we are about to be rewarded for our perseverance. This sale is full of bargains for collectors. From a delicate glass shoe to a heavy munitions box, everything adds to our pile, and with few exceptions, the sellers let us name our price. We score a striking orange and white 1970s typewriter for $10, a brass propeller for $20, and spend another $20 for six additional garage sale finds.
