On February 9th, 2020, my good friend Andy and I sought out some Reading & Northern operations on a cold, and in the beginning, snowy Sunday. Starting off the day in the Pittston area, we found ourselves along the Susquehanna River in Pittston, PA, where train PIME is seen beginning their trip up the former Lehigh Valley Susquehanna Branch with GP39RN 2530 and GP38-2 2011 with 18 boxcars loaded with paper for Proctor and Gamble in Mehoopany, PA. The train kicks up plenty of fresh powder as they get up to track speed after clearing the Pittston Yard Limits. While we caught PIME, PISB made their way up to NS Taylor Yard outside of Scranton to swap cars with NS. The SBPI is seen beginning their return trip, this train sporting SD50M 5014 and SD40-2 3055 for power as they depart Taylor Yard for the Scranton Branch, rounding the curve at Old Forge and then crossing Coxton Road as they make their way into Pittston Yard. With the Pittston Jobs done, we headed down towards Port Clinton and eventually Reading to lay eyes on NRFF7, this being the train I caught derailing in Nesquehoning. We first caught NRFF7 storming through Leesport behind an SD50 trio, SD50M 5033 and SD50-2s 5019 and 5020, which were purchased from CSX with 32 cars in tow for Pittston. We caught up to the fast freight at New Ringgold, at Zehners outside of Tamaqua and then again at Tippets Road in Hauto. After Hauto we headed to Nesquehoning for what would be our final shot of the day of the train, but we already know that story.. Thanks for watching!
