CPAP Skills Sheet https://app.luminpdf.com/viewer/60611... CPAP Stands for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure which is used to ventilate patients with critical respiratory system distress. CPAP is a prehospital ventilation system, that in some cases, may eliminate the need for Endotracheal Intubation. It is a portable non-invasive ventilatory support system that administers positive oxygen pressure to help patients receive 10 cm H2O into their respiratory system. Although CPAP is an amazing piece of prehospital equipment, using it incorrectly out in the field may injure a patient with irreversible consequences. Using the equipment properly is critical, because knowing WHEN TO and WHEN NOT TO use the CPAP may mean the difference between saving a life or otherwise. Before applying the CPAP on a patient, be sure the explain the procedure and gain their participation. Let the patient know that there will be a loud noise that comes from the oxygen tank through the Fixed Flow Generator and that the mask is large and bulky, but must fit over their face. If the patient comprehends your instructions, they are most likely to participate in the CPAP Administration. Otherwise, they may become scared at the sound and not allow you to place the mask over their face due to claustrophobia and they'll want to remove the mask, because they are already struggling to breath. The skills sheet associated with this skills can be found above and it will help Rescuers to follow along with the educational video provided. Be sure to watch video and read the skills sheets often, because this may be considered a SELDOM USED SKILL.
