I've had a gear whine in the car since I've owned it for the past 3 years. At this point I figured it was time to finally tackle it. So after making this video I believe the cause of the whine coming back with the new gears the last owner installed was due to setting the blacklash too loose at .014", where for competition it should really be closer to .008". I also put in a new set because after marking the old gears the pattern was inconsistent and favoring heel and toe contact on the drive side (where I had my gear whine). Then lastly I put in a crush sleeve eliminator kit and set it with in the tolerance allowed from the ford racing gear install manual found below.
