This week, Justin Collopy visited Daniel Blake, the owner of BalletCorps, located at 4915 US 52 North, Suite O, Rochester, MN, in the Slumberland commercial complex on the north side of the building near Mario Roberto Jiu-Jitsu Academy and Detour Gym. About the Business: BalletCorps provides structured classical ballet training with a focus on strong technique, artistic development, and personal growth. They offer the Primary Afternoon Corps Program for ages 7–19, adult beginner and advanced classes, and competition coaching and choreography for events like Youth America Grand Prix. Their mission is simple: Move with excellence. Story Behind the Business: Founder and director Daniel Blake began dancing at age nine, trained at the Virginia School of the Arts, danced professionally with companies such as Kansas City Ballet, and has been teaching since 2012. When opening BalletCorps, he personally built the studio’s 2,700-sq-ft seven-layer sprung floor, over 150 hours of work, to ensure dancer safety and longevity. His vision is to bring high-level ballet training to Rochester and build a community where dancers leave “smiling and exhausted.” Highlights from the Visit: Justin toured the studio with Daniel, showcasing the custom-built sprung floor, the training space, and Daniel’s philosophy centered on excellence, joy, and personal development.
