Empowering Communities Worldwide: DreamRoot's Impactful Year in 2023

It has been a full and exciting year. Here’s a snapshot of DreamRoot’s impact in 2023: TRAINING AND NETWORKING Conducted over 300 hours of training and coaching to 160 local leaders in 20+ communities, including the Amazon and Sertão regions of Brazil. This has positively affected more than 1,300 students, their families, and community members. Developed and conducted trauma-informed self-defense seminars for 24 local leaders who serve over 400 people in more than seven communities in Brazil. Translated and launched a custom private online learning and networking platform connecting and equipping leaders in Asia, Africa, the U.S., Haiti and Brazil. Established the Jiu Jitsu Leader Network to advance the impact of local jiu jitsu initiatives, develop leadership skills on and off the mat, and expand the life-changing impact of the sport. Hosted a cross-cultural exchange trip in Recife, Brazil, welcoming 11 participants from the U.S. YOUTH AND EDUCATION Implemented tutoring for 145 students in Haiti and Brazil, employing seven young adult graduates who improved the teaching skills of 23 teachers and improved learning outcomes and grades for 128 students. Organized a five-week summer camp in Haiti for 125 children, providing a safe space for continued learning and connection. COMMUNITY CAPACITY-BUILDING Coordinated 16 community capacity-building events, including career fairs, legal services for work permits, resume writing assistance, public health and mental health workshops, and vocational training. SEED INVESTMENT AND SPONSORSHIP Provided seed investment for community projects, including the construction of the i35 Hope Project Center in Brazil, creating a safe and nurturing environment for children to learn and grow, resourcing a printer/copier for a school in Haiti to supply course materials to families and installing new mats for a jiu jitsu program in Brazil. Sponsored 133 local leaders to attend training events and 6 children to compete in a local jiu jitsu tournament. Donated 147 jiu jitsu uniforms, along with clothes and educational toys to students in need. What monumental and exciting achievements for a budding organization!
