Join the virtual annual meeting of the ACLU Milwaukee Chapter! Calls to reform or defund the police are linked to social movements struggling for a more just, less lethal, and less racist Milwaukee, but does defunding the police dismantle racism? Our panelists address systematic racism as it is embedded not only in policing, but also in other systems in place, such as prisons, mental health, and even social work and healthcare responses. We ask them to explain how to think comprehensively about a more racially just city, and what forms of organizing are effective for reimagining racist systems. What will it take to reject anti-Blackness in all of Milwaukee's institutions? Panelists: Keisha Robinson, Program Director, Black Leaders Organizing for Communities (BLOC) Kenneth Ginlack, LCSW, CSAC, ISC, Director of Outpatient Services, Milwaukee County Behavioral Health Division Brianna Canales, UWM Fellow, Leaders Igniting Transformation (LIT) Mariah Cruz Ahles, Social Worker
