This Public Service Announcement is brought to you by Unbound Now and the Heart of Texas Human Trafficking Coalition as part of the #NotInMyCity human trafficking awareness campaign. The woman in this video finds herself on a street she is not familiar with. As she calls her friend for directions, she takes notice of a suspicious encounter. The woman sees a mother exchange what looks like a bag of drugs with a man, who then enters the home. The mother calls out to the daughter to go inside with the man. The young girl makes eye contact with the woman in her car before she reluctantly goes inside. The woman in the car has received training on how to identify potential signs of human trafficking. She remembers that familial trafficking is not uncommon, and can be in exchange for drugs, alcohol, food, shelter, money, or anything of value. Realizing the immediate danger the young girl is in, she calls 911 to report what she saw. If you or someone you know is a victim of human trafficking, you CAN get help. If there is a threat of immediate danger, please call 911. National Human Trafficking Hotline: 1-888-373-7888 (call) 233733 (text) https://humantraffickinghotline.org/chat ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Trafficking Victims Protection Act (200) defines human trafficking as the recruitment, harboring transportation, provision, obtaining, patronizing, or advertising of a person for a commercial sex act, labor, or services through the use of force, fraud or coercion. Sex trafficking also includes any person under the age of 18 years old participating in commercial sex, as they cannot legally consent to sex. In human trafficking, we see many situations and circumstances that trap individuals in trafficking. In this video series, Not In My City: End Human Trafficking, we explore three scenarios that are often underrepresented when talking about human trafficking: 1. Labor trafficking 2. Familial trafficking 3. Male sex trafficking Each of the videos represents victims who are statistically underreported and often unidentified. It’s time that we, as a community, stand up and say “Not In My City” to any and all forms of exploitation and trafficking. Join Unbound Now and the Heart of Texas Human Trafficking Coalition in saying #NotInMyCity by learning how to identify signs of labor or sex trafficking and reporting suspicious behavior.
