Anthem: "The Spirit Sighs" by John Priddy

This Sunday, our choir premiered a new piece by our own John Priddy. The anthem, written for the Feast of Pentecost, is entitled "The Spirit Sighs." Drawn from Romans 8 and Acts 2, the anthem highlights the Spirit's generative work at Pentecost, and in the lives of Christians still today: "The Spirit sighs, a heart is torn; Love’s sting is cast aside once more. Yet, Love is felt; the soul implores. The Spirit sighs, a heart is born. The Spirit sighs, a heart is torn; when prayers arise but take no form. Yet, in the quiet our thoughts transformed. The Spirit sighs, a heart is born. A rushing wind, a holy flame descends on us, God’s love proclaimed. Hosannas rise in every tongue, 'The Holy Ghost to earth has come.' The Spirit sighs, the heart is born; our prayers take wing, lost nevermore. God’s grace descends and fills the soul. The Spirit’s sigh has made us whole."
