The Macallan New Distillery Video for Best Single Malt Scotch Whisky Brand & Speyside Whiskey Making. https://www.themacallan.com/ On 2nd June 2018 Macallan opened their brand new, state of the art, Distillery and Visitor Centre on their fabulous Easter Elchies estate, home to The Macallan single malt since 1824. It was designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour and Partners and was constructed by Elgin-founded Robertson Construction. The contemporary architecture reflects the topography of surrounding hills, and blends into the unique Speyside landscape with no visual impact. Along with the striking new design, Macallan have built in additional capacity to increase production by up to a third with 90% of its energy usage coming from renewable sources. The new distillery also made the shortlist for the 2019 RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) Stirling Prize for excellence in architecture, and received an award from RISA (The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland) in the same year. The original Macallan distillery was founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid, a barley farmer and school teacher, and is now owned by The Erdrington Group, who purchased the brand from Highland Distillers in 1999. Macallan is now firmly established as a premier single malt, both in quality and sales, and consistently appears within the top 3 best-selling malts. Rare Macallan expressions often attract high prices at auction including a Macallan 1926 60-year-old single malt, which sold for a staggering £1.45 million on Oct 24, 2019 at Sotheby’s in London.
