At last, we have made it to the final part of Storm Silver, that being the Johto Elite Four. In order to take on this gauntlet, we will be using a team of Yanmega, Gliscor, Honchkrow, Dragonite, Rotom-Fan, and Farfetch’d. As for the roles each team member will play, Yanmega is excellent for every Elite Four member except for Koga. Speaking of which, Gliscor is brought to handle Koga. Honchkrow is good into Will with a combination of Night Slash and Sucker Punch. Farfetch’d is a backup attacker for Koga and Karen. And at last, there’s Dragonite and Rotom-Fan who are coming along to take on Lance. In order to prepare for the Elite Four, we have to do some solid EV training using the power items available in the Battle Frontier as well as acquiring helpful items such as the Insect Plate and Black Glasses to boost our team’s offense. I was hoping to take advantage of items such as the Expert Belt and Wise Glasses at this point but they’re not even available until postgame. Regardless, we have enough resources to construct a solid team to take on the Elite Four and Champion. For this Elite Four run, we take them on in the following order: Will, Karen, Bruno, and Koga. Will and Karen are taken care of first since Yanmega can sweep them quite well with a combination of Insect Plate for damage and Speed Boost for momentum. There’s Bruno who I haven’t mentioned up to this point since he’s the easiest Elite Four member by far, due to our type advantage. Just about anyone on the team can handle him, but in this scenario, Rotom-Fan and Gliscor are the duo that take him on. Then there’s Koga who is the most challenging Elite Four member in Koga. He has a strong defensive backbone which can easily disrupt our momentum. Thankfully, enough things work in our favor such as Muk missing Gunk Shots and Weezing going for Thunder on an Electric-immune Pokémon that Koga becomes more than manageable. And then there’s our Flying-type arch nemesis Lance. His team has glaring weaknesses to Electric and Dragon types, which we can take advantage of with the help of Rotom-Fan and Dragonite. The most threatening Pokémon on his team are the two Dragonites due to their good coverage and formidable bulk. In the end though, we are capable of defeating Lance and we have proven that it is possible to beat Pokémon Storm Silver using only Flying types. For our next monotype run, I plan on taking on Radical Red using only Normal type Pokémon. Due to the large step up in difficulty, this may take longer to complete than my previous runs but I intend to start the run in early May. I’m looking forward to this run primarily for the challenges that await us in Radical Red, especially with how hard it’s been ever since the 4.0 update. Until then though, see you next month for another monotype run on the channel!
