(21 Apr 2013) SHOTLIST 1. Wide pan protesters at beginning of anti-gay marriage demonstration 2. Wide reporters surrounding Frigide Barjot, figurehead of demonstration 3. SOUNDBITE (French) Frigide Barjot, figurehead of anti-gay marriage movement: "How many demonstrations have we organised in the past six months? We are deliberately coming back to where it all began; we held our first demonstration here where no problems were reported. So why are you trying to accuse us of being violent and homophobic. We denounce this violently, it is propaganda, propaganda. If the democratic tension has reached such high levels today, it is because there is a denial of democracy in our country. We are not allowed to speak out." 4. Wide protest with flags 5. Close up sign reading (French) "Tell me daddies, what's a mummy?" 6. Mid of protester Corentin Loron with fellow demonstrators 7. SOUNDBITE (French) Corentin Loron, 18 year old protester from Paris suburbs: "We want to show that even if they want to force us to accept it, we aren't resigned to it, and whatever happens we will always be here to say what we think. And just because they want to smoke us out doesn't mean we're going to forget our values." 8. Wide protesters holding banners 9. Mid protester marching chanting (French) "your law, we don't want it!" 10. Women dressed as Marianne demonstrating against legalisation of gay marriage 11. Mid of leader of the Leftist front Jean-Luc Melenchon, 17. SOUNDBITE (French) Jean-Luc Melenchon, leader of France's Leftist Front: "Why would I be bothered by someone wanting to get married? People organise their happiness and choose their own way of expressing love. That is what we want to support. And I am shocked by the violence that exists against these demands." 18. Wide pan of demo with Bastille Opera in background 19. SOUNDBITE (French) vox pop, demonstrator (no name given) supporting gay marriage: "We are in 2013, it it time for things to evolve, for people to evolve. Before it was the unmarried mothers who were a problem, after that it was the children of divorced parents, and now I think it is time to stop this. I am straight and I don't think that their children will have any more problems than my children." 20. Wide pan of demonstration STORYLINE Tens of thousands of demonstrators took to sunny Paris streets on Sunday to protest a bill that would legalise gay marriage. The march wound its way across the Left Bank district and was expected to culminate in a gathering on the vast Invalides esplanade on Sunday evening. There was a heavy police presence along the route. "We want to show that even if they want to force us to accept it, we aren't resigned to it, and whatever happens we will always be here to say what we think. And just because they want to smoke us out doesn't mean we're going to forget our values," said Corentin Loron, an 18-year-old protester from the Parisian suburbs. A counter-demonstration by those in favour of the bill was organised across the Seine river on the large Bastille square. That demonstration was attended by the leader of France's Leftist Front Jean-Luc Melenchon. But opposition to the bill has mounted throughout the French legislative process, largely from conservative groups from France's conservative heartland.
